Leech therapy (also known as hirudotherapy) is a natural, safe treatment which utilises the healing properties of leeches.
In the last 20 years leeches have been rediscovered, and are scientifically better understood.
Hirudotherapy is now also practised in USA, New Zealand and Australia.
The Leech Clinic is led by hirudotherapist (leech therapist) Bridget J Croft, a qualified nurse and experienced practitioner. Nurse Croft operates from her clinic conveniently located in the West Midlands.
Leeches are widely used in the NHS to assist with surgical procedures. The Leech Clinic offer leech therapy which can be beneficial in a very wide range of disease states and contribute to general wellbeing.
In Britain, leeches are widely used in the National Health Service (NHS), to help in the surgical re-attachment of severed extremities such as fingers, toes and ears.
The scientific literature shows that leeches may be beneficial in a very wide range of disease states, including the following:
Chronic skin diseases (such as, psoriasis, eczema, cutaneous leishmaniasis, hard-to-heal wounds)
Phlebitis and gout
Ischaemic heart disease
To prevent post-surgical blood clotting
In the treatment of asthma
For pain relief, in conditions such as osteoarthritis (ankle, hip, knee, shoulder, small joint)
To treat localised infections such as abscesses, mastitis, paronychia
To treat hypertension and migraines
